HAVE AN UNDIVIDED HEART

“I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them: I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh. Then they will follow My decrees and be careful to keep My laws. They will be My people, and I will be their God.”  Ezekiel 11:19-20 (NIV)

  1. Make the verse personal

LORD, give me an undivided heart and put a new spirit in me: please remove from me my heart of stone and give me a heart of flesh. I choose to follow YOUR decrees and will be careful to keep YOUR laws. I want to be counted as one of YOUR people, and have YOU known as my God.

  1. Spend time with those in your household

Plan a time to discuss the following questions:

  • What does it mean to have a “heart of stone”?

[Dictionary definition: a stern or cruel nature; unfeeling; To be very cold, mean, or callous by nature]

  • What areas in your life cause you to have a divided heart?

Hands on project:

Discuss the above verse while looking for some stones large enough to paint a small heart on. When collected, paint a heart on the stones. If possible, find a body of water you can throw them into as you discuss your desire to have a heart of flesh instead of stone.

  1. Read and Pray other scriptures on having an undivided heart
  • Psalm 86:11
  • 2 Kings 20:3
  • 1 Corinthians 7:35
  • Psalm 51:10
  • Luke 10:27

  1. Living in Community with an Undivided Heart

With a new spirit given by God the theme verse says that after we get a heart of flesh, tender towards the things of God, we will follow His decrees and keep His laws.

Ask God to show you which “laws” would benefit those you do life with at home, work, school, church. Then do it!

[ex. Proverbs 24:17 ESV, “Do not rejoice when your enemy falls, and let not your heart be glad when he stumbles,”; Romans 15:1-2 ESV, “We who are strong have an obligation to bear with the failings of the weak, and not to please ourselves. Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, to build him up.]
