District Monthly Prayer – November

Rev. Daniel Eddings   -

“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” Ephesians 4:29 (NIV)

Make the verse personal

LORD, bring to my attention my words BEFORE I let any unwholesome talk come out of my
mouth. I only want what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it
may benefit those who listen.

Spend time with those in your household

Play HOT SEAT!

This is a great way to build each other up in your own house or a group you meet with
regularly or even a group of co-workers. Put a chair in the middle of a space where you can
gather. Each person takes turns sitting in the chair. Those that are not in the chair must say
something kind about the person in the “hot seat” for the sole purpose of building them up.
It’s important that nothing derogatory is said, even in jest. Repeat the activity having each
person take a turn in the “hot seat”.

Living in Community by Building One Another Up

Be an example wherever you go.

Make a conscious effort to guard your tongue this month. Even if that means being silent when you would rather speak. In a time in our world where hate and harm are rampant, we the people of God need to be different. Commit the verse to memory and let that lead your thoughts before you open your mouth.

A Blessing Jar.

Find a container that you can collect money in. Every time you catch yourself saying, or even
thinking, something that would tear someone down, drop something in the jar. At the end of the
month, donate the money to a struggling organization or individual in your community.

If this is not your struggle, reverse it. Every time you intentionally build someone up, drop
something in your Blessing Jar.
